Travel more and better in 7 steps
In this post I will tell you my method to travel more and get the most from each journey. Also, I’ll try to answer the question I receive all the time: “how can you travel so frequently?”
But first, let me do a step back.
If you’re reading this, it’s because you are a traveler.
In fact, it doesn’t matter how many countries and cities you have been to. What make you a traveler are the desire to hit the road and the curiosity to discover.
But let’s face the reality.
Most of the people I meet everyday keep saying they would travel more if they had more time, more money and less responsibilities. But they don’t.
Does it sound familiar?
You probably heard that millions of times.
In fact, I used to tell the same to myself: “I love to travel! If only…”
And those subtle words, the “if only”, were enough to keep me far away from my intentions.
It was so frustrating. I used to spend my days at work thinking about where to go on the next holidays. But then, when it was time to go, I didn’t.
I can’t even tell what kept me from doing it. The only thing I know is the regret that I had when I was back to the office.
Until one day…

One day I just stopped finding excuses.
I have some friends who are overweight and keep complaining: “I’d love to do sports, if only I had more time, more money and less responsibilities.”
And they believe it!
But if you do sports regularly as I do, you know that most of the time those are just excuses. They don’t do it because they don’t want to.
In conclusion, external factors are not the real obstacle most of the times. What instead keeps us from doing what we want, is our mind.
Think about it.
Of course I’m not saying that everyone can afford to go to Bora Bora. But it doesn’t mean you can’t go somewhere else on your budget.
What do you really need to travel more?
Probably, you’re just looking for a reason to go:
- relaxing after a long year of hard work;
- celebrating an achievement;
- the sense of adventure;
- to spend time with a friend;
- or just to attend to a gig;

However, which is the reason that works best for you it doesn’t really matter.
Because you DON’T need a reason to get to travel.
That’s the point.
For some people, the need to travel is like the need to eat.
And if you are reading this you’re probably one of them, whatever are your income and your responsibilities.
You need to travel to you feed your soul, you energy and your life, the same way you need air for your lungs and food for your muscle. Therefore, your travel diet will reflect your wellness as much as.
I won’t lie to you…
We all love to indulge lying on our comfortable sofa watching a new TV Serie while diving the spoon into our favorite ice cream.
But life’s too precious!
And wellness is not too far.

The tips I’m going to share with you are my way to set me going.
Also, they’re the result of years of traveling in any possible way you can imagine, to more than 60 countries.
Use them as a checklist to get you off the couch and to make the best out from your travels.
#1 Buy the ticket.
This is the first and most important thing to do. It sounds obvious but it’s not. Saying “I want to go on a travel” or “I will visit Croatia one day” is not enough. You have to commit yourself!
It doesn’t matter where you go, if you’ll travel by plane, train or on an hot air balloon. Because every journey is worthy and will stimulate others.
#2 Book a room for the first three nights.
In fact, you want to be free to change your plans when you are there. But on the other hand you don’t want to spend your journey moving from a room to another. So, three nights are a good compromise.
#3 Write down your personal list.
Browse websites and blogs to get to know more your destination, focusing on your interests rather than on the “top-lists”. Think of 5/6 things you don’t want to miss to do or see. In fact, a key of every travel is to have a purpose, whatever it is.
#4 Talk with everyone.
To have a purpose is important but is more important to be open to change it. So, start your journey investigating other people’s purpose. And do it from the very beginning since there’s no point to wait till the last days. Especially if you are traveling alone: ask to the person seated next to you on the train; spend time with the assistant at the information desk of the airport of arrival; and share suggestions with the other tourists around you. Every one has different itineraries and plans, some of those may be interesting for you as well.
#5 Take a pause at your arrival.
The first thought you have is to get to your room as soon as possible. However, if the time allows you, try to not rush through luggage, taxi and bus. Your travel has already started, hence look around and enjoy every moment.
#6 Go out, rest later.
For how comfortable your room may be, get out right away. In fact you need to warm up, become familiar with the new surroundings. Hence walk down the road, explore the shops, the block and the area. You’ll have time to rest later.
However, your room may be worse than you expected. Then, you have two options: to adapt or to leave. But remember, being flexible means learning to travel and widen your possibilities. Also, the best stories comes from the unexpected and how we face them.
Nevertheless, if you or who is with you feels uncomfortable, find another room straight away to not waste your travel.
#7 Follow your curiosity and enjoy!
So, this is the time you were waiting for! Take everything you do as a gift, be prudent but follow your instinct. Say as many yes as you can and be open to the new. Travel more but also better!
In conclusion, that’s how I manage to make of each travel a once in a lifetime experience.
